Job Overview:

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) acts as an advisor to assigned business units and interacts with every level of the organization in the day-to-day management of employee and labor relations. The HRBP provides support to business units in interpreting and consistently applying HR policies, implementing a robust and effective performance review process, addressing compensation and training needs, as well as in any other HR related discipline. Working with the business units, the HRBP will help identify and resolve HR needs while delivering prompt and efficient support.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish relationships with assigned business units and coordinate with various departments to address and resolve HR needs and issues;
  • Act as a resource to assigned business units for the interpretation of Human Resources policies. Communicate new policies and/or changes to existing policies/programs, and recommend new approaches to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the HR department;
  • Partner with Labor and Employee Relations team and the Associate General Counsel in order to prepare for contract negotiations;
  • Act as a subject matter expert for assigned business units and clearly articulate requirements to managers and business partners on the interpretation of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), compensation, benefits, and performance review questions;
  • Respond to union-specific requests related to payroll, invoicing, reporting, audits and contract negotiations; Work with the benefits team to ensure that we maintain union databases to reflect employee roster changes on a monthly basis. Oversee union invoice reconciliation process in collaboration with benefits team;
  • Partner with legal counsel to conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations when necessary and identify fair and effective resolutions to employee complaints; Provide guidance to management on employee counseling and documentation;
  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying opportunities; evaluating potential solutions; assisting with implementation of selected solutions; and coaching and counseling managers and employees on performance issues;
  • Ensure that all personnel records for assigned business units comply with company, State and Federal guidelines. Provide timely responses to unemployment claims, including backup documentation. Work with different business units to coordinate company participation in hearings as needed;
  • Assist assigned business units with employee review process, compensation, submission of performance ratings and compensation recommendations;
  • Assist the Communications Manager and Recruitment Director on the coordination and facilitation of HR-related training programs for managers/employees at different tracks;
  • Participate in special projects as requested or desired.

Qualifications:

  • Education (minimum): College degree
  • Experience: 3 years of progressive experience as a Human Resource professional.
  • Other Requirements: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or PHR preferred.
  • Proven experience supporting union environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing highly confidential information.
  • A positive attitude, initiative and business acumen;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence a diverse customer base;
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present a professional image and excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to travel within the NY Metro area for track visits and meetings;
  • Strong computer literacy, including Excel and HRIS databases.
  • Flexibility or availability to work a portion of the summer racing meet at the Saratoga Race Course, and to work some holidays and weekends.

Summary of Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This is an office role with no special physical requirements.

Pay Range / Salary: $80,000 - $94,000
