Title: Financial Analyst

Employee Status: Regular Full Time

Work From Home Option: Hybrid - 2 Days/Week (40% Remote)

Job Overview:

Basic Responsibilities: 

Partner with the CFO, Senior Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis and the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis in analyzing the overall financial performance of the New York Racing Association, Inc.   In addition, this role will analyze and project the impact of business strategies as well as evolving economic and competitive conditions. Partner with the accounting team in the preparation and filing of periodic reports.  Be the liaison with various department heads on key department projects related to revenue generating and cost cutting initiatives.  Manage the escheatment process to ensure timely filing.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze business activity and trends versus budget and prior year and perform trend analysis;
  • Prepare financial reporting and periodic reports as required (i.e., departmental forecast updates, etc.);
  • Collaborate with the executive team and department heads in analyzing revenue generating and cost cutting initiatives;
  • Work with the FP&A and executive team in preparation of the annual budget and participate in monthly forecast meetings;
  • Prepare state parimutuel taxes, certain IRS, state withholdings, and foreign tax returns;
  • Manage escheatment and source market fee processes to assure timely submission and compliance;
  • Responsible for treasury functions as a backup;
  • Support the accounting team as necessary including SAP stabilization and optimization projects;
  • Maintain FP&A department scheduling and important due dates;
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks as assigned (i.e., new business ventures, etc.).

 

Minimum Requirements: 

Education (minimum): Bachelor’s Degree required, preferable accounting or finance major.

Experience:  A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in accounting/finance preferred.
Other Requirements:  General understanding of finance principles.

Knowledge/Skillsets Required:

  • Analytical and creative minded when it comes to interpreting data and trends;
  • Ability to complete tasks within set deadlines;
  • Excellent computer skills, including excel spreadsheet. SAP knowledge is a plus;
  • Strong organizational skills, sound judgment and the confidence to take initiative;
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
