Job Overview:

Plans and supervises the activities of the cleaning crew which is responsible for cleaning designated public areas and offices in two NYRA racing facilities including bathrooms, locker rooms, dorms, hallways, and restaurant facilities. Supervises the activities of designated cleaning crew members in the completion of pre-cleaning racetrack facilities before the opening of the next racing meet.

Essential Functions:

Essential functions of the Cleaning Lead include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responding to requests and departmental needs that require cleaning services;
  • Reporting and cataloging situations or conditions that require maintenance repairs;
  • Planning and assigning work to ensure adequate coverage of all facilities;
  • Ensuring that all work is done in accordance within established guidelines and procedures;
  • Ensuring pre-clean is completed in advance of the live racing meet;
  • Inspecting work to ensure high quality of cleaning operations;
  • Reviewing the performance of staff and recommending disciplinary actions;
  • Keeping attendance records; Tracking employee hours for payroll.
  • Distributing supplies and tracking usage for inventory support.
  • Training new staff members in cleaning requirements and the proper use of cleaning solutions and equipment;
  • Coordinating work with other departments to ensure a smooth flow of work;
  • Developing and recommending improvements to existing operating policies and procedures;
  • Ensuring compliance with the NYRA dress code and safety regulations and requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or some college coursework preferred; High school diploma, GED or the equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures and the time/resource requirements of routine tasks.
  • Knowledge of safety (OSHA) regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to motivate others and to delegate effectively.
  • Ability to remain positive and constructive in a stressful environment.
  • Experience working with a unionized work force preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS-Office required.

Summary of Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This role oversees the cleaning of the public areas of the backstretch so will require working outdoors occasionally.

Pay Range / Salary: $32.00 - $33.14 per hour
