Title: Race Course & Construction Technician-Ozone Park, NY

Job Overview & Essential Functions:

  • Operate equipment to maintain and groom the dirt and turf racetrack surfaces.
  • Assist with overall operation of the Harrow Yard.
  • Operate graders, loaders, tractors, water trucks, rollers. mowers, trimmers, etc.
  • Fill turf with seed/soil mix and replace divots from horse racing.
  • Maintain racing surface and grassy areas consistently. Cut turf course as determined by Supervisor.
  • Maintain consistent height of grass to prevent excessive amount of grass clippings from laying on course. Install temporary rail and post system.
  • Provide fresh running lane and set up Steeplechase roads.
  • Transport rail/post/pins to turf course and drive support pins into ground.
  • Attach posts and rail to form a continuous ring around course parallel to permanent rail. Move jumps onto outer course set up with padding and space a predetermined distance apart.
  • Rake, thatch, aerate, irrigate, and mow grass surfaces.
  • Maintain the turf track with daily watering. Spread fertilizers and other materials as required.
  • Preparation of infield for synthetic surface.
  • Turf course reconstruction.
  • Installation and Repair of irrigation sprinklers and drainage. Installation of sod.

Qualifications:

• Must have two (2) years of experience working in a Racetrack environment.
• Must have experience using tools such as: gas mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, shovels, rakes.
• Must have experience using heavy equipment such as: excavators, skidsteers, payloaders, harrows, water trucks and tractors.
• Must have knowledge of tamp turf courses and fill divots

40 hours per week. M-F. Salary $87,547.20-$90,188.00 per year. Applicant must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States.
