Job Overview:

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (“NYRA”) seeks an intellectually curious, detailed oriented junior attorney to join its growing Legal Department. In this fully remote position, the Contracts Attorney I will be the principal drafter and negotiator for all of NYRA’s commercial agreements. The Contracts Attorney I will report directly to the General Counsel and, with the help of a legal assistant, support the Procurement, Sponsorship, Sales, Television and Facilities departments in producing close to 1,000 agreements annually. The successful candidate will be a time management guru, with strong interpersonal skills and a client service-focused attitude. 

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the principal contract drafter and negotiator of NYRA’s many commercial contracts, including procurement, license, sponsorship, marketing, sales, and independent contractor agreements.
  • Responsible for  minimizing legal risks in contracts while ensuring that each contract follows NYRA’s procurement policy.
  • Lead oral and written negotiations and communications.

Qualifications:

  • Education (minimum): Legal degree with license to practice law in the State of New York
  • Experience: +2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Contracts and Corporate Law, Intellectual Property law a plus
  • Horse racing operations a plus
  • Other Requirements: Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong research skills. High level of intellectual curiosity – must enjoy “figuring it out.” Creative, results-oriented thinker. Emotionally intelligent. Extremely professional demeanor and work ethic.
  • Spanish or additional language skills a plus


Note: This position is fully remote. The candidate will be expected to work a 40-hour work week but the schedule is flexible (i.e., the successful candidate will dictate their regular work schedule at the time of offer).

Summary of Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This is a desk job with no special physical requirements

Pay Range / Salary: $95,000 - $100,000 per annum
